The Outlands

The Outlands are full of farms, ranches, and one large trading post. For the most part, it is a desert, but it still has some greens here and there - unfortunately not much can survive outside of the farms in the violent environment on the fringes of the Scorch. This stretch of land is unprotected by walls and has limited Purge security to keep the Cranks out, but it is thankfully free of the Flare - mostly. These farms and ranches are far from safe, living in constant fear of Cranks and solar storms and the dangerously mutated animals that try to come up North. Those that live in the Outlands are often extremely poor, just barely making enough money from Avar City's supply runners to stay alive. Cranks will sometimes infiltrate, whether they be stage 1 Cranks just looking for food and shelter, or stage 4's that are hungry for blood and violence. This has caused more than one Flare outbreak that the Purgers who used to protect them are forced to stamp out.
